Nagaland: ENPO and ENSF Condemn Violent Attack on GPRN/NSCN (Kitovi) Members in Pungro Town
Northeast Desk, 16th August: The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) and the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) have strongly condemned the violent assault on two members of the GPRN/NSCN (Kitovi), Sangtikiu and Ati, in Pungro town on August 8. The attack was reportedly carried out by the town commander of GPRN/NSCN (I-M) and his associates.
According to reports, the victims, both belonging to the Yimkhiung community, were subjected to severe physical violence, including being beaten with rifle butts and cane sticks while being held at gunpoint. ENPO President A Chingmak Chang and ENSF President Chingmak Chang released a joint statement denouncing the incident as a serious violation of human rights and an unacceptable act of violence.
The leaders emphasized that conflicts should be resolved through dialogue and peaceful means, not through physical aggression. They criticized the attack as a flagrant disregard for peace, justice, and human dignity, and expressed concern over a growing trend of aggressive actions that threaten community stability.
The statement also addressed recent threats made by Jangkhen, associated with the GPRN/NSCN (I-M), who has been intimidating student leaders, individuals, and businesses. Such actions, they noted, undermine ongoing efforts towards peace and unity in the region and violate the ENPO’s December 18, 2007, resolution, which explicitly denounces violence and intimidation.
