Case Filed Against Forest Department Official for Alleged Extortion and Intimidation

A legal case has been lodged in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate against Haider Hussain, a Sadar Ranger with the Forest Department, following allegations of extortion and intimidation made by local land trader Altaf.

Altaf claims that Haider Hussain, appointed as Sadar Ranger, began harassing land traders and created a hostile environment for them. The situation reportedly worsened when Hussain allegedly borrowed Rs 1 lakh from Altaf in May, purportedly for his wedding. Altaf asserts that he was coerced into giving the money to an intermediary, Mukid, in Badarpur.

Despite repeated requests for repayment, Altaf alleges that Hussain refused to return the money and threatened to falsely accuse him of legal violations if he continued to demand repayment. Faced with no other options, Altaf sought redress by filing complaints with various authorities, including the PCF, CM Vigilance, and the Chief Minister’s office in Guwahati.

The case against Hussain has been formally registered, and legal proceedings are expected to reveal more about the allegations against the forest official. Hussain has yet to comment on the accusations.
