Northeast Desk, 5th September: In a significant bust at the Rangpo checkpost, Sikkim Police apprehended Jishan Raja, a 22-year-old meat and fish seller, after discovering a pistol, live and fired bullets, and a cache of drugs in his possession. The haul included 272 tablets of the banned substance Spasmoproxyvan. Raja, who hails from Bihar, was operating a shop in Rangpo.
This arrest underscores growing concerns over illegal arms and drug trafficking in the state, with authorities vowing to continue their crackdown on such activities.
In an unrelated case, the Sikkim Police are also investigating a disturbing case of sexual assault in the Soreng district. A complaint was filed on August 30 against a stepfather accused of repeatedly assaulting his 9-year-old stepdaughter. The victim was brought to the Soreng Community Health Center, where medical professionals confirmed the history of abuse. An FIR (No. 21/2024) was promptly registered under Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012.
Both incidents have sparked concern, with law enforcement intensifying efforts to curb crime and protect vulnerable individuals in the state.
