Sikkim Government Partners with NID Ahmedabad to Boost Creative Economy
Northeast Desk, 10th September: The Sikkim government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmedabad on September 9, marking a significant step towards promoting the creative economy in the state.
This partnership, part of the World Bank-supported Sikkim ‘INSPIRES’ programme, aims to enhance connectivity, improve market access, and foster innovation and skills development, particularly benefiting women and youth in the region.
Commerce and Industries Minister Tshering Thendup Bhutia, speaking at the event, emphasized the importance of Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage, including traditional arts like ‘Thangka’ painting and carpet weaving, and how the collaboration can unlock new economic opportunities.
NID Director Nahar Saif highlighted the potential of design-led initiatives to foster local talent and drive economic growth in the state.
