Manipur Government Extends Internet Suspension Amid Ongoing Law and Order Concerns
Northeast Desk, 15th September: In response to the persistent law and order issues, the Manipur Government has extended the suspension of internet and mobile data services across several districts. This measure, affecting Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching, is set to continue from 3:00 PM on September 15 to 3:00 PM on September 20, 2024.
Initially imposed on September 10, 2024, the suspension includes mobile data, VSATS, and VPN services, with exceptions granted to certain whitelisted entities. This decision follows a prior partial lifting of broadband restrictions on September 12, 2024, but given the ongoing tensions, the government has opted to maintain the freeze on most internet services to safeguard public order.
All mobile service providers have been instructed to enforce this suspension strictly. The public is advised to refrain from activities that might further exacerbate the current situation.
