Meghalaya: Newborn Dies After Mother Gives Birth in Toilet at Nongpoh Civil Hospital

Northeast Desk, 23th September: A heartbreaking incident occurred at Nongpoh Civil Hospital on September 21, where a woman from Meghalaya, Monalisa Langi, delivered her baby in the toilet shortly before the newborn died.

Langi, a resident of Umden Diwon, was initially taken to Umden Primary Health Centre due to labor pains and later transferred to Nongpoh Civil Hospital on the night of September 20. After being admitted in the early hours, she received medical care.

According to her husband, Richard Rympeit, Langi experienced severe labor pains on the evening of September 21 and was given a pain relief pill. While visiting the hospital toilet, she unexpectedly delivered the baby, which unfortunately did not survive.

Following the tragic event, members of the Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) visited the hospital to seek clarification from authorities regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
