Assam Celebrates Mahalaya with Festive Devotion, Marking the Arrival of Goddess Durga

Guwahati, 2nd October: As the nation commemorates Mahalaya, a day of immense spiritual significance marking the arrival of Goddess Durga, a wave of festive devotion has swept across Assam. Mahalaya, which heralds the beginning of Durga Puja, ushers in the auspicious Sharadiya season, a time when autumn’s gentle embrace intertwines with the fervor of divine celebration. The air is thick with spirituality as chandi recitations echo through the state, preparing the way for the grand arrival of Sharadi Rani—Maa Durga.

Communities throughout Assam have organized prayers, cultural programs, and devotional gatherings to mark the occasion. From temples to homes, the day is filled with eager anticipation as devotees prepare to welcome Goddess Durga with open hearts and boundless reverence. Tezpur, much like the rest of the state, is no exception, fully immersed in the sacred aura of Mahalaya.

At the revered Mahabhairav Temple in Tezpur, the morning hours witnessed an outpouring of devotional energy as throngs of devotees gathered to offer their prayers and seek blessings. The temple was abuzz with the sounds of hymns and the rustle of offerings, creating a vivid tapestry of faith.

However, amidst the joy, some have voiced concerns about the increasing commercialization of the festival, with fears that materialism is overshadowing the occasion’s traditional purity. Yet, the spirit of Mahalaya remains resilient, with faith and devotion continuing to reign supreme across Tezpur and beyond.

As Assam and the rest of the country prepare for the grand festivities of Durga Puja, Mahalaya serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring bond between tradition, faith, and the timeless celebration of Goddess Durga’s arrival.
