Bongaigaon — As the Bongaigaon by-election approaches, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Bhupen Borah has intensified his campaign efforts, rallying support for Congress candidate Brajenjit Singh.
During his visit to the constituency, Borah emphasized the party’s commitment to preserving local identity and regional pride, expressing optimism about Singh’s chances of a substantial victory.
“The Bongaigaon constituency embodies a deep-rooted spirit of regionalism. We have chosen Brajenjit Singh as our candidate because of his strong sense of nationalism,” Borah stated confidently. He believes Singh’s connection to the community will resonate with voters, leading to a decisive win.
Borah did not shy away from targeting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that its members are cultivating an atmosphere of tension and hostility in the Chamguri area. He accused BJP “goons” of instigating conflict in the community, claiming this is a calculated strategy to intimidate residents and sway the election results.
In addition to his critiques of the BJP, Borah addressed recent allegations against a Congress candidate from the Behali constituency, who has been accused of distributing Rs. 2 crore in Jorhat and Rajasthan. He dismissed these allegations as unfounded and a ploy to undermine the party’s credibility.
Furthermore, Borah raised concerns about alleged financial misconduct within the BJP, asserting that funds from the coal and betel nut syndicates are being funneled to the home of a prominent BJP leader in Jagiroad. He called on authorities to investigate these claims, arguing that they expose the BJP’s deeper connections to illicit funding sources in Assam.
As the election date draws near, the rivalry between the Congress and the BJP intensifies, with both parties vying for control over the crucial constituency.
