Assam’s Shashanka Gogoi Shines at World Cup, Bags Bronze in Hand-to-Hand Combat
Guwahati: Shashanka Gogoi, a talented athlete from Demow, Assam, has brought immense pride to the state by securing a bronze medal at the World Cup Final 2024 Hand-to-Hand Fighting Championship.
The prestigious tournament was held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from November 20 to 23.
Gogoi’s exceptional performance in the Under-57 kg category showcased the rising talent in Assam’s combat sports scene. He was one of four athletes representing the state at the global event, highlighting the increasing recognition of Assam’s martial arts prowess.
Further solidifying Assam’s presence on the international stage, Debajit Gogoi, the general secretary of the All Assam Hand-to-Hand Sports Association, served as a referee at the championship. His role as an official underscores the state’s significant contribution to the development and promotion of hand-to-hand combat.
