Assam: Tea Worker Killed in Wild Elephant Attack at Sonari Tea Garden
Assam: A tragic incident occurred at the Tingalibam Tea Garden in Sonari, where a 38-year-old tea worker, Madhu Bhakt, was fatally attacked by a wild elephant.
Madhu, a father of two, had ventured into a nearby jungle to collect firewood on the afternoon of November 28 but failed to return home, prompting concern among his family and fellow workers.
The next morning, Madhu’s lifeless body was discovered by his colleagues, who observed injuries consistent with an elephant attack. Local residents confirmed the presence of tusk marks on the body, corroborating the cause of death. The authorities from the Forest Department and police have been informed and are conducting investigations into the incident.
The region has been grappling with human-elephant conflicts, with wildlife encroaching on human habitats due to deforestation and shrinking natural habitats.
This incident highlights the urgent need for measures to mitigate the conflict and ensure the safety of both humans and wildlife in the area. The recurring human-elephant conflicts in the region have resulted in loss of life and property, emphasizing the need for effective solutions to address this pressing issue.
