Assam CM Inaugurates Sarupathar Civil Hospital, Sports Facilities, and New Infrastructure Projects

In a significant development for Sarupathar in Golaghat district, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a 100-bedded Sarupathar Co-District Civil Hospital and an oxygen plant funded through Numaligarh Refinery Limited’s CSR initiative. The hospital, built with a financial outlay of ₹15 crore, features nine outpatient departments, an operation theatre, an emergency ward, a special newborn care unit, and other essential medical facilities.

Terming the day as pivotal for the region, CM Sarma highlighted that the oxygen plant would enhance critical care services during emergencies. He also assured that advanced medical care facilities would be progressively added to the hospital to meet the growing needs of the population.

The Chief Minister announced the inclusion of 10,000 new beneficiaries from the Sarupathar Assembly constituency under government welfare schemes, empowering several women from the area.

In another significant step, CM Sarma inaugurated an indoor stadium and laid the foundation stone for a swimming pool, adding momentum to Sarupathar’s infrastructural growth.

The ₹2 crore indoor stadium includes two synthetic badminton courts and two table tennis courts. The swimming pool, to be constructed at a cost of ₹75 lakh with CSR funds from Numaligarh Refinery, will further enhance the region’s sports ecosystem.

Updating on the Lovlina Borgohain Sports Complex, Sarma shared that work on the facility was progressing rapidly. He emphasized that these infrastructures would inspire the youth, aiding in the development of national and international-level athletes from Sarupathar.

The Chief Minister called on parents to nurture a love for sports among their children, stressing its role in fostering good health and discipline. He highlighted the potential of local talent, drawing comparisons with Olympian Lovlina Borgohain and Commonwealth medallist Nayanmoni Saikia.

“Every young sportsperson in Sarupathar has the potential to achieve excellence. The new facilities will provide them with opportunities to shine on national and international stages,” Sarma said.

The event also saw the inauguration of a rural stadium at Golaghat South Development Block, constructed at a cost of ₹2 crore. CM Sarma expressed hope that these facilities would further strengthen the state’s sports movement and provide a robust platform for aspiring athletes.

The event was attended by MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, MLA Biswajit Phukan, Lovlina Borgohain, Nayanmoni Saikia, international boxer Jamuna Boro, and other dignitaries.
