Meghalaya Police Arrest Man Accused of Stabbing 23-Year-Old in Shillong

Shillong: Meghalaya Police have arrested Saidin Ali, accused of brutally stabbing 23-year-old Deva Kharkongor in Shillong’s ADA Centre area near Gol Building on January 1. The arrest followed a swift chase by Jhalupara Police, officials confirmed.

The incident, which occurred at around 9:38 pm, has been described by the victim’s family as an “attempt to murder.” According to a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, Mera Kharkongor, Ali allegedly attacked Deva with a pair of scissors, inflicting severe injuries to his left rib and right eye. The injuries have left the victim in critical condition, prompting immediate medical attention at NEIGRIHMS.

Deva Kharkongor, a resident of Nongsohphoh, was assaulted in the Shillong cantonment area, raising concerns about safety in the locality. His mother, who lives in Naspatiighari, has demanded a thorough investigation into the case. Authorities have assured the family that the matter is being handled with urgency and that strict legal action will be taken against the accused.

The attack has sparked widespread attention, with many calling for enhanced security measures to ensure public safety in Shillong.
