Assam Logs 481 Drunk Driving Cases During New Year Celebrations
Guwahati: Assam recorded 481 cases of drunk driving over December 31 and January 1, with 109 driving licenses seized during New Year’s Eve and Day as part of a state-wide crackdown.
The Assam Police, in collaboration with the Transport Department, maintained a strict vigil to ensure road safety during the celebrations.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the efforts of the enforcement agencies, attributing the lower number of road accidents this year to their relentless vigilance.
Taking to his official X handle, he emphasized the state’s commitment to ‘safer roads,’ stating that the police registered 160 non-FIR cases against individuals caught driving under the influence.
Ahead of the celebrations, Assam Police launched a creative awareness campaign to discourage drunk driving, blending humor with responsibility.
The campaign’s tagline, “Assam Police’s Hottest New Year Deal: Drive sober, regret nothing, and wake up without handcuffs or a hangover,” resonated widely, garnering attention for its innovative and impactful approach.
The state’s focused efforts highlight Assam’s commitment to curbing drunk driving and promoting road safety, setting a tone of responsibility for the new year.
