Assam: Sribhumi Police Destroy Narcotics Worth ₹156.84 Crores in Major Crackdown
Assam: In a decisive step against the drug menace, the Sribhumi Police destroyed narcotics valued at ₹156.84 crores today, January 16, in Sharif Nagar near Sribhumi, Assam.
The contraband, seized during numerous operations over the past few months, included heroin, yaba tablets, cannabis, Phensedyl cough syrup, and other intoxicating substances. This marks another significant milestone in the district’s ongoing battle against drug-related crimes.
The destruction ceremony saw the participation of senior officials, including DIG of South Range Kanakjyoti Saikia, Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das, and the District Commissioner. During the event, both DIG Saikia and SP Das lauded the relentless efforts of the Sribhumi Police in combating drug trafficking.
They revealed that 196 drug traffickers had been arrested and jailed in recent months, signaling a robust crackdown on narcotics in the region. The officials expressed optimism that sustained legal and operational measures would help eradicate the drug trade entirely from the district.
The destroyed drugs included 14 kg of heroin, 15 lakh yaba tablets, over 6 crore kg of cannabis, 2.83 lakh bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup, and 51,000 intoxicating capsules and tablets. These figures highlight the magnitude of the illicit trade and the critical need for continued vigilance and enforcement in the area.
Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das, who has been at the helm of anti-drug operations since late 2022, has been instrumental in intensifying the fight against narcotics. Under his leadership, drugs worth approximately ₹222 crores were destroyed in the previous year alone. His proactive measures and coordinated efforts have not only dismantled major drug networks but also instilled public confidence in the police’s ability to combat organized crime.
Today’s destruction event underscores the district administration’s commitment to creating a safer and drug-free society. The Sribhumi Police continue to serve as a beacon of hope in the fight against narcotics, paving the way for a more secure future.
