Tripura CM Manik Saha Announces Plans to Modernize Police Force with AI, Drone Technology
Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday, January 16, outlined plans to modernize the state’s police force with advanced technologies, including AI-based control rooms, drone technology, smart CCTVs, and modernized systems.
Speaking at the Tripura Police Week at the AD Nagar Police Line, CM Saha emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing the efficiency and capabilities of the police at both district and state levels.
The Chief Minister also revealed ongoing efforts to establish a new Police Headquarters and modernize the East and West Agartala Police Stations, following recommendations from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the reconstruction of old police stations and quarters.
Praising the Tripura Police, CM Saha highlighted their historical significance, noting that last year marked the 150th anniversary of the force. He urged the police to maintain transparency, dignity, and a commitment to public service.
Reflecting on the state’s progress, CM Saha reported a 19.3% reduction in crime in 2024 compared to 2023. Key achievements included significant drops in property-related crimes (45%), physical assaults (38%), riot-related cases (75%), and crimes against women (55%). He also acknowledged the role of Tripura Police in ensuring peaceful elections, earning praise from the Election Commission of India.
In the fight against drugs, the state saw a record seizure of drugs worth Rs 867 crore in 2024, marking a 106% increase over the previous year. The Chief Minister also highlighted the sentencing of several individuals for various crimes, reinforcing the state’s commitment to justice.
