Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma pitches investment opportunities in South Korea

Guwahati: South Korean business leaders were introduced to exciting investment opportunities in India’s northeastern state of Assam during a major roadshow in Seoul on Monday. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presented the state as a prime destination for foreign investment, highlighting the unique incentives and strategic advantages available to investors.

At the Advantage Assam event, Sarma assured business leaders that the Government of India would take a more proactive role in facilitating investments in Assam. “The Government of India’s policies, spearheaded by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are focused on developing the northeastern region and ensuring that growth and industry reach this vital area,” he stated.

Sarma went on to underline the benefits for potential investors, noting Assam’s locational and strategic advantages, as well as the special dispensations offered by the Indian government. “When we go to Assam, we benefit from a locational advantage, a strategic advantage, and also special dispensation from the Government of India. This makes it an even more important destination in our country,” he emphasized.

The roadshow in Seoul marked the first stop in Sarma’s five-day diplomatic mission to East Asia, which also includes Tokyo. The mission aims to attract foreign investment ahead of the ‘Advantage Assam 2’ summit, furthering Assam’s push to position itself as a gateway for Southeast Asian businesses seeking to enter the Indian market.

The visit aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s Act East Policy, which seeks to strengthen economic and strategic ties with India’s Asian neighbors. For the state government, Sarma’s outreach is seen as a crucial step in transforming Assam into a key business hub, making it one of the most significant international investment drives for the region in recent years.
