Assam: Police recover stolen goods in Guwahati, four arrested

Guwahati: In a swift police operation, authorities apprehended three thieves and a receiver of stolen goods in connection with the theft of air conditioning copper pipes and systems from the Basistha Press Club office at AG Road of Krishnapur in Guwahati.

The incident, reported by press club member Bandan Gogoi, took place on the night of January 19. 

The investigation led to the arrest of Safiqul Islam (34), Inamul Ali (19), and Minarz Ali (19), all of whom were found in possession of burglary tools.

The tools included open wrenches, a sly wrench, a plier, a ring wrench, a screwdriver, a hammer, and an electric cutter machine, all allegedly used in the theft. 

Further interrogation revealed the location of the stolen items, which were recovered from a dump in Patarkuchi.

Among the recovered items were a broken air conditioner, tata Voltage AC cooler frame, intel sound box with four small speakers, anida air conditioner, two rolls of blue-colored copper wire, manual three-wheeler rickshaw used for the crime and cash amounting to Rs 5,400.

The investigation also led to the arrest of Ashma Khatun (55), the alleged receiver of the stolen goods, from her residence in Panjabari Bataghuli under Satgaon Police Station jurisdiction. 

The suspects will be produced before the court tomorrow (22nd January).
