Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi Criticizes Union Budget 2025, Calls It “Redundant Exercise”

Guwahati: Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi has launched a scathing attack on the Union Budget 2025, calling it a repetition of past promises and lacking tangible benefits for the common people.

Speaking to the media following the budget presentation, Gogoi remarked, “This budget is the same as we have been hearing for ten years.”

He criticized the government’s approach, arguing that beyond rhetoric, there is little substance for the poor, farmers, or the middle class. “All we get are words. Tax waivers seem to favor large corporations, while common citizens continue to struggle under rising GST and other financial burdens,” he stated.

Labeling the budget as “the poorest of all in the last decade,” Gogoi dismissed it as a “non-event.” He also questioned the announcement of no tax up to an income of ₹12 lakh per annum, suggesting that the details remain unclear.

“This is an old trick by the government to mislead the people. They make grand declarations, but when examined closely, there is no real benefit for the common man,” he asserted, further calling the announcements “jumla” (empty rhetoric).

Gogoi concluded by announcing that the Congress party would present its official response and in-depth analysis of the budget at a press conference scheduled for 5 PM today.
