Assam Rifles Seizes Drugs, Destroys Cannabis Plantation Worth Over ₹3 Crore in Tripura

Agartala: In a decisive crackdown on illicit drug trade, Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Customs Department, seized a significant consignment of banned drugs and destroyed a sprawling cannabis plantation in Tripura.

The operations, carried out over the last 24 hours, dealt a heavy blow to smuggling networks operating in the region.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, security forces intercepted a massive stockpile of Eskof Corex syrup—a substance frequently misused as a narcotic—from a forested area in Nagicherra, Agartala, during the early hours of February 3.

A total of 6,900 bottles were recovered, with an estimated market value of ₹40 lakh. Officials stated that the consignment was meant for illegal distribution and posed a serious risk of substance abuse.

Following the seizure, the confiscated contraband was handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and legal action.

Later the same day, Assam Rifles conducted another successful operation targeting illegal narcotics cultivation. In a late-night raid, security personnel destroyed approximately 75,000 marijuana plants spread across 100 acres in the Bejoynagar area of Sepahijala district.

The large-scale plantation, valued at nearly ₹2.9 crore, was identified as a key supply hub for drug traffickers in the region. The operation was carried out in collaboration with officials from the Custom Preventive Force, Sonamura, and the Sepahijala District Police Headquarters.

Officials emphasized that the crackdown highlights the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies to eradicating drug-related activities and preventing the spread of illicit substances. With drug abuse becoming a growing concern, security forces are intensifying their efforts to dismantle smuggling networks and eliminate the source of illegal narcotics in the region.
