Mizoram Government Recruits Over 1,500 Teachers to Strengthen Education Sector
Aizawl: The Mizoram government, led by the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), has recruited 1,507 new teachers across various schools since coming to power in December 2023.
The move is part of the administration’s commitment to enhancing the state’s education system and addressing faculty shortages.
Education Minister Vanlalthlana, in response to a query from ruling ZPM legislator V L Zaithanzama during the Assembly session, confirmed that 1,188 teachers have been recruited for state-run schools, while 319 have been appointed under the Samagra Shiksha scheme. These new hires include 461 primary school teachers, 348 middle school teachers, 457 high school teachers, and 241 higher secondary school teachers.
Despite these efforts, 526 of the newly recruited teachers did not take up their positions. To fill these vacancies, the government is appointing candidates from the reserved list for middle and high schools, while 234 fresh recruits are being selected for primary schools as no reserved panel was available.
The Education Minister also noted that in 2024, 20 teachers retired due to superannuation, while 158 others passed away while in service. The large-scale recruitment drive reflects the ZPM government’s focus on bolstering the education infrastructure and ensuring a stable teaching workforce across Mizoram’s schools.
