ABSU President Voices Alarm Over Dismal Gunotsav Performance in Bodoland and Hill Districts
Kokrajhar, Assam: The president of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), Dipen Boro, has expressed deep concern regarding the unsatisfactory results of the recently announced Gunotsav-2025 examinations, particularly highlighting the poor showing of students within the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and the autonomous hill districts of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.
Speaking to members of the press at Bodofa House in Kokrajhar, Boro stated that the recently declared Gunotsav 2025 results by the Assam Government’s Education Department have brought to the forefront the alleged inadequacy of quality education provision by the Assam Government in the Sixth Schedule areas of the state.
The Gunotsav results, specifically for the four districts comprising the BTR – Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, and Udalguri – as well as the districts of Karbi Anglong (including West Karbi Anglong), Dima Hasao, and Hojai, have been largely disappointing, according to the ABSU president.
Boro asserted that these outcomes underscore a considerable deficiency within the educational framework of these Sixth Schedule areas, which are constitutionally mandated to have special provisions for their administration and development.
He held both the Assam government and the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) administration accountable for what he described as their failure to implement timely and effective measures aimed at bolstering the education system in these regions, ultimately contributing to the students’ underwhelming performance.
Boro further elaborated on the continuous deterioration of educational facilities, lamenting the shortage of qualified teachers and essential infrastructure prevalent in numerous schools throughout the region. He also highlighted the issue of delayed textbook distribution, leaving many students without necessary learning materials.
“The Assam government has neglected its responsibility to take crucial steps for the betterment of the education system in these regions, leading to such disheartening results. Urgent attention and proactive intervention are absolutely necessary to tackle these pressing issues,” Boro declared.
In light of the situation, the ABSU has made a strong appeal to both the state government and the regional authorities to take immediate and decisive action to ensure a significant improvement in educational services within the Sixth Schedule areas, guaranteeing that students are provided with the essential resources required for their academic success.
