Ahead of Eid, UP Govt issues directives to Remove Illegal Loudspeakers from Religious Places

Guwahati: Ahead of Eid celebration in the state, the Uttar Pradesh home department has issued orders to remove loudspeakers from religious places across the state.

The UP government has said to implement that the illegal loudspeakers will be removed from religious places. It further added that loudspeakers flouting the noise limit standards will be removed.

The state government has ordered that all police stations compile a list of all such locations and submit their reports to the state’s home department by April 30. The reports will be sent by the divisional commissioners of each area.

Following negotiations with religious leaders, all unauthorised loudspeakers will be removed.

The order comes just five days after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that loudspeakers can be used at holy sites with permission, but the sound must not be broadcast outside the premises. He also stated that no new permits for loudspeakers will be authorised.

It may be mentioned that in the year 2021, a complaint filed by Allahabad University Vice-Chancellor Sangita Srivastav seeking restrictions on the use of loudspeakers early morning in mosques, Inspector General of Police, Prayagraj asked the district magistrate in his range to ensure a ban on the use of loudspeaker between 10 pm and 6 am as per the Supreme Court’s orders.
