AIPC: Assam government’s 4 hours internet shutdown decision is ridiculous

Guwahati: The All-India Professionals Congress (AIPC) Assam unit has criticised the Assam government’s decision to shut down the internet for 4 hours on August 21 and August 28 in order to prevent cheating in government job recruitment exams as absurd and amusing.

President of the state unit of AIPC Gauravv Somani said that going by the example of the Assam government; during UPSC exams the entire country should ban the internet to curb cheating, questioned Somani.

According to him, adequate exam centre frisking may have prevented this chaotic situation.

People in city like Guwahati are dissatisfied with their inability to access internet payments. Online payments and card payments are blocked, and people are having major issues yet businesses are still operating in many regions of the state.

“Citizens are complaining to us that they are unable to pay at hospitals and medical facilities. Many people have expressed their displeasure because they had to check out of their hotels in order to make it on their flights yet were unable to pay by debit card or online. Many students are forced to forgo online coaching and tuition due to the government’s illogical decision.

AIPC has urged the government to reverse its decision to ban internet use and implement a robust method to prevent exam cheating instead of causing chaos throughout the state.
