Akhil Gogoi: “Assam’s Economic Situation Similar to Sri Lanka”

Guwahati: Leader of the Raijor Dal and a Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has voiced his worry about Assam’s economic situation. He said that the state’s financial condition is going to be similar to that of Sri Lanka.

Gogoi criticized the federal government for refusing to lend money to the state government. He claims that as of November 2022, the Assam government owes Rs. 1,27,073 rupees in debt. The total debt in 2016 was Rs. 41,946 rupees.

Gogoi criticized the state administration during the first day of the Assam Assembly Budget session for failing to address crucial issues. He went on to label Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the two ‘Hitlers’ of India.

Gogoi began by criticizing the recently appointed Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria’s speech, calling it entirely erroneous and full of fabrications. He criticized the governor for including Assam’s effort to break a world record with a special Bihu performance in his speech, calling it a trivial matter.

Gogoi attacked the BJP for claiming responsibility for Maidams in Charaideo being added to the temporary list of World Heritage Sites. The Guinness volume of World Records, according to him is just a volume and does not bear the UNESCO seal.

Moreover, Gogoi referred to both the state and the federal government as insolvent. He asserted that the government plans to stage a Bihu performance using an open-market loan for Rs 100 crores.

Going back to the dog meat controversy, Gogoi condemned the Legislator from Maharashtra who allegedly made derogatory remarks against Assamese people for eating dog meat. He further lambasted the assembly for not taking any action against the MLA. The Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Assam are the only two Hitlers in India, according to Gogoi.
