Guwahati: Sivasagar MLA and leader of the Raijor Dal Akhil Gogoi launched an assault against the Assam administration on Friday, the opening day of the legislative assembly’s budget session. Akhil Gogoi continued by referring to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the two “Hitlers” of India, claiming that the government has consistently attempted to stifle the critical concerns.
Akhil Gogoi began by criticising the newly appointed Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria’s address, calling it completely false and full of lies. He felt that the Governor’s speech should not have included a discussion of Assam’s quest to break a world record with a unique Bihu performance.
Akhil Gogoi said, “A Bihu performance to enter the Guinness Book of World Records, the Prime Minister coming to see the performance. Are these matters important enough to find a place in his speech? These are minor issues. By bringing up these issues, the government tries to suppress the important matters at hand.”
The MLA from Assam’s Sivasagar went on to say, “We had just brought up the dog meat row and cabinet minister Pijush Hazarika could not take it.”
Akhil Gogoi continued by highlighting current social problems. He criticised the Assam government for its handling of the law and order situation, claiming that the reality is very different from what the administration is claiming. Gogoi pointed out that Assam rated quite high for sexual violence against women to bolster his argument.
The leader of the Raijor Dal continued by claiming that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was behind Maidams in Charaideo’s provisional listing on the World Heritage Sites list. He said that the Guinness Book of World Records is only a book and does not bear the UNESCO seal.
Moreover, Gogoi called both the government at the Centre and the state bankrupt. Nowadays, the Centre also does not sanction loans to the Assam government. The government is looking to put up a Bihu performance taking a loan of Rs 100 crores from the open market, he claimed.
Meanwhile, returning his attention to the dog meat row, Akhil Gogoi said, “An MLA from Maharashtra insulted the people of Assam saying that we consume dog meat. It is unfortunate that our assembly did not take a single step against it. Pijush Hazarika could not take it when we took up the issue as if it burned him from inside.”
“No action was taken against him even after we filed around 20 cases in connection with the matter. On the other hand, a single Facebook comment against the CM warrants near to a lakh cases against a person. There are only two Hitlers in India. One is our Prime Minister and the other is our Chief Minister,” added Akhil Gogoi.
It should be noted that earlier in the day, as the Assam Legislative Assembly’s budget session was about to begin, Akhil Gogoi took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the rising costs of necessities under his administration.
Akhil Gogoi emphasised that under PM Modi, the cost of a cooking gas cylinder rose from Rs 448 to Rs 1,152 today.
He claimed that the cost of practically all necessities had increased. The assembly should focus on the vital topic of inflation, and it is the role of the legislature to consider ways to combat it.
Akhil Gogoi said he was not invited to the all-party meeting in the meanwhile. To the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), his party, Raijor Dal, was not invited.
Gogoi claimed that the reason he was not invited was because everyone anticipated his protests and raising the crucial problems. The increase in municipal taxes should be opposed by the public.
The policy of the government is expressed in the Governor’s speech. He stated that after hearing a speech like that, we shouldn’t be just sitting around.
He added that the government has no control over the cost of rods, cement, mustard oil, or any other basic good.
Akhil Gogoi protested in front of the gathering with a festoon that represented the increase in the price of cooking gas. On the subject of Sarania Kachari’s tribal status, he chose to remain silent.
