Akhil Gogoi: Will revive anti-CAA movement if Govt tries to impose it
Guwahati: Raijor Dal leader and Sibsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi said on Monday that he is still prepared to launch a new agitation against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) if the government tries to enforce it.
Speaking about the CAA, Akhil Gogoi stated that he opposes it since it poses a threat to the Assamese society as a whole.
He added, “KMSS was nearly banned and I was arrested for our stand against the CAA but the agitation failed only because of a few people taking the lead.”
He added that while he was in jail, some “so-called leaders” took the lead for the CAA agitation and turned it into a failure.
Gogoi asserted that the protest was a complete failure because the leaders took it to “playgrounds from the streets.”
He claimed that the leaders were scared when they realised how seriously the people of Assam were taking the issue and how close they had come to destabilising the government.
Gogoi added that people in charge should have made sure the government resigned and stopped the atrocity, but they didn’t.
Gogoi further added that he continues to oppose the CAA and is watching for the ideal opportunity to launch a new campaign against it.
