Anna Hazare Slams AAP, Blames Corruption Scandals for Party’s Decline in Delhi Elections
New Delhi: Veteran social activist Anna Hazare has strongly criticized Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) following their poor performance in the recent Delhi elections. Hazare blamed the party’s downfall on corruption scandals, particularly the controversial liquor policy case, which he believes has severely damaged public trust.
“I have been saying for a long time that a candidate must have character, good ideas, and a clean image to contest elections. But AAP has failed to uphold these values. They got entangled in liquor and money scandals, which dented Kejriwal’s credibility, and that’s why they are getting fewer votes,” Hazare stated.
Reflecting on his long-standing disassociation from AAP, Hazare recalled his decision to distance himself from the party. “When a meeting was held, I decided not to be part of the party, and I have remained away since then,” he said, emphasizing that integrity in politics is paramount.
Once propelled by the anti-corruption movement led by Kejriwal and Hazare, AAP emerged as a powerful force in Delhi politics. However, a series of allegations and governance controversies have eroded its once-strong voter base. The recent Delhi election results indicate growing public disillusionment with the party, as AAP’s vote share has significantly declined.
While Kejriwal has denied wrongdoing and labeled the corruption charges as politically motivated, critics argue that AAP has strayed from its original ideals, leading to its current electoral struggles.
