Another mudslide at Sonapur tunnel in East Jaintia Hills district
National Desk, 15 June: A new landslide blocked traffic on National Highway 6 in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills area on Thursday in the early hours.
After receiving the information, authorities arrived at the scene and descended to clear the debris. The road is currently blocked but efforts are being done to clear it.
According to the Lumshnong and Umkiang Police, drivers on National Highway – 6 have been urged to exercise caution.
Meanwhile, the Northeastern region has been struck by severe rainfall and landslides have been reported in several locations across the seven states.
As the monsoon arrives in the area, the weather agency has warned the states that it will rain for the next week.
Earlier on Wednesday, fresh landslide occurred at Sonapur tunnel of East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, blocking vehicular movement on National Highway-6.
