Arrest all “Brokers” in Police Stations: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati: Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that “brokers” within the system need to be arrested to clean the system and directed Officer-in-Charges of all police stations in the state to arrest unauthorized persons who roam around the police stations to write FIR and complaints.

The CM said that such persons who are not authorized are seen in all police stations and they charge money for writing FIR copies which can “never be accepted”.

“The job to note down an FIR is sole of the police personnel and in most cases, it is of the sub-inspector on duty. Officer in Charge of the police station should write the FIR but if you notice, it is seen that an unauthorized person is seen there in the police stations who would charge for writing down the copy”, the CM said,

He further added that the OCs of all the police stations in Assam will be given 10 days to arrest all such unauthorized persons or else, the CM, himself will take steps to arrest such persons.

“No one should encourage such persons and people should immediately report such persons if they come across one. These unauthorized persons would usually charge Rs 10 to Rs 100 for writing a complaint and none of these monetary transactions are authorized. It is the job of the concerned police official and not them”, Himanta Biswa Sarma added.

The CM also said that the persons who act as brokers usually would write certain sections in FIRs which sometimes are inappropriate and not legit.
