Northeast Desk, 1st August: Dasanglu Pul, Minister for Women & Child Development, inaugurated the 7th Edition of the Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy for Football and Volleyball (Under-16, Boys & Girls) 2024 at the General Ground, Hawai. The event, dedicated to Havildar Hangpan Dada, Ashok Chakra, was attended by notable figures including Col. Avilash Mohanty, CO 16 Bihar Regiment, Soblem Pul, ZPC Anjaw, DC Anjaw Talo Jerang, SP Anjaw Rike Kamsi, and other distinguished guests.
The tournament, renamed from the Chief Minister Football and Volleyball Trophy to honor the late Havildar Hangpan Dada, celebrates his bravery and sacrifice. Dada, who was awarded the Ashok Chakra for his heroism in Kashmir, passed away in Kupwara on May 27 after killing three terrorists.
The event showcased local talent in football and volleyball, with enthusiastic participation from young athletes. The district champions will advance to the state-level Hangpan Dada Memorial Trophy in September. Minister Pul praised the sportsmanship and spirit of the participants, emphasizing the importance of honoring national heroes through such initiatives.
