Arunachal: Kameng District Launches Major Enforcement Drive Under Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0
Northeast Desk, 30th September: In a crucial step towards creating a tobacco-free environment for young people, the Kameng District authorities have launched enforcement actions under the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0. As part of this initiative, a special enforcement squad has been conducting raids to seize tobacco products from shops located near educational institutions and market areas.
The campaign is aimed at ensuring compliance with the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003, which prohibits the sale of tobacco products within 100 yards of schools and colleges. Fines totaling Rs 2400 have already been collected, underscoring the serious consequences of violating these regulations.
The Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0, running from September 24 to November 23, 2024, is designed to curb tobacco use among the youth through a series of enforcement drives. In Bomdila alone, authorities plan to conduct 16 enforcement drives to ensure compliance and promote public health.
The DTC Cell’s mission reflects a growing commitment to protecting public health and creating safe, tobacco-free zones around educational institutions, underscoring the importance of safeguarding young people from the harmful effects of tobacco.
