Arunachal: One Labourer Dead, 18 Others Missing From Construction Site near India-China Border
Guwahati: A labourer was recovered dead while 18 others are still missing near the India-China border in the Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The workers have been reportedly missing since July 5th (14 days). They were working in a road construction project in the district.
According to Bengia Nighee, deputy commissioner of Kurung Kumey district, “Yesterday, the body of one labourer was recovered from a nearby river and was discovered in a little river known as Furak river under Damin circle.”
The workers were engaged in road construction work in Huri area under Damin circle, according to Bengia Nighee, who also reported that a police squad and the Circle Officer of Damin had moved towards the scene this morning.
The Damin circle area is located along the India-China border.
The majority of the unaccounted-for labourers come from the Muslim population, and Nighee speculated that they may have departed the construction site on July 5 to celebrate Eid elsewhere.
The Deputy Commissioner also stated that an investigation has been started after receiving information regarding the missing labourers from the road project’s contractor.
