Assam: ICC Hosts Key Business Event with Dr. B. Kalyan Chakravarthy In Guwahati

Guwahati, Assam – The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) organized a high-impact session titled “Guest of the Month – Ease of Doing Business” on January 31, 2025, at the NEDFi Conference Hall in Assam’s Guwahati.

The event featured a keynote address by Dr. B. Kalyan Chakravarthy, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, focusing on empowering the workforce and fostering entrepreneurship in the region.

Dr. Chakravarthy outlined key reforms and ongoing initiatives by the Assam government to enhance the business environment, streamline regulations, and align skill development programs with industry demands.

He emphasized the critical role of a skilled workforce in driving economic growth, particularly in emerging sectors such as manufacturing, IT, and services. He also highlighted the need for stronger private sector collaboration to spur innovation and investment.

Addressing Assam’s economic potential, Dr. Chakravarthy underscored the ambitious goal of increasing the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) from Rs 68.7 billion to Rs 143 billion.

He identified hydrocarbons, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, electronics, agriculture, and bamboo logistics as key growth areas.

Additionally, he discussed technological advancements in robotics, 3D printing, and artificial intelligence as vital components of Assam’s future economy.

A major highlight of the event was the discussion on the UNNATI Scheme, a government initiative aimed at empowering local entrepreneurs by facilitating access to financial support through banks and institutions.

Dr. Chakravarthy stressed the need for Assam to evolve rapidly to remain competitive in the global economy, urging swift action to accelerate economic development.

The session included an engaging discussion with industry leaders and entrepreneurs on enhancing business opportunities and creating a dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Chairman of ICC’s Assam & Meghalaya State Council, Sarat Kumar Jain, emphasized the importance of inclusive skill development, ensuring equal opportunities for women, youth, and marginalized communities.

Concluding the event, Dr. Jayanta Pathak, Chairman of ICC NER Infrastructure Resilient Construction Committee, delivered a vote of thanks, reaffirming ICC’s commitment to strengthening the business landscape in Assam and North-East India.
