Arunachal: Pilgrim Route Diverted as Clashes Erupt Near Parshuram Kund

Northeast Desk, 14th January: The movement of pilgrims heading to Parshuram Kund, Arunachal Pradesh, via Kakopathar and Dirak Gate faced diversions on January 14 due to clashes between All Tai Khamti Singpho youths and Adivasi youths in Namsai. The decision, prompted by the District Administration of Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh, aims to ensure the safety of pilgrims amidst the ongoing unrest.

In light of the situation, the advised alternative routes are now:
A. Doomdooma-Rupai Siding-Talap-Sunpura
B. Doomdooma-Rupai Siding-Talap-Chapakhowa-Shantipur Gate-Roing

Pilgrims are strongly cautioned against utilizing the Kakopathar-Dirak Gate route until further notice is provided by authorities. This redirection comes as a proactive measure to prevent any potential escalation of the clashes and maintain peace in the region.

The deputy commissioner cum district magistrate of Namsai invoked Section 144 of CrPC, imposing prohibitory orders after clashes disrupted the area’s law and order. The order restricts gatherings of more than four persons from 2nd Mile, Namsai, to APIL Colony. Additionally, the carrying of lethal weapons such as guns, dao, bows, and arrows has been prohibited in the affected areas. The local administration remains vigilant to address the situation and ensure the safety of residents and pilgrims during this period of tension.
