Arunachal Pradesh Police Capture Rape Accused After Three-Year Manhunt

Northeast Desk, 25th July: After evading capture for three years, Nitai Roy, a man accused of raping a 12-year-old girl, was finally apprehended by Arunachal Pradesh police near Itanagar on Wednesday.

According to Capital Superintendent of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh, Roy was arrested in connection with a 2021 incident where he allegedly raped the minor at Labour Colony on the Rajiv Gandhi University campus. Singh noted that the case, registered under Section 376 of the IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act, has been under active investigation since its initial report.

Singh explained that despite Roy’s frequent relocations across Assam and West Bengal, a dedicated police team was established earlier this year. Under the leadership of Itanagar SDPO Kengo Dirchi, Inspector Rina Sonam and Sub-Inspector Rosy Singpho utilized extensive resources and innovative techniques to track Roy down.

“Their thorough and creative efforts led to Roy’s location in Assam and facilitated his return to Itanagar, where he was arrested,” Singh stated. He acknowledged that delays in filing the FIR had prolonged the investigative process but praised the team’s persistence in securing the arrest.

Singh commended the police for their relentless dedication and encouraged the public to report crimes promptly, assuring that the police are committed to delivering justice.
