ASEC Announces 13th NCHAC Election in Dima Hasao District

Guwahati, 12th December: The Assam State Election Commission (ASEC) has officially set the stage for the 13th North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) election in Dima Hasao district, scheduled for January 8, 2024. Results from the election will be declared on January 12, marking a crucial moment for the region’s governance structure.

The NCHAC, operating under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India, provides a framework for a degree of autonomy, enabling self-governance in specified administrative areas. Despite the district’s name change to Dima Hasao, the council retains its original title.

Composed of elected members from 28 Autonomous Council constituencies, the council members serve five-year terms, overseeing subjects such as agriculture, education, health services, and more. The current Chief Executive Member, Debolal Gorlosa, leads the council.

In the lead-up to the election, the final electoral roll will be published, and the official election notification will be released after all preparations are completed. Political parties and candidates are expected to actively participate in the democratic process, representing diverse interests in Dima Hasao. The outcome of the election will shape the leadership and trajectory of the council for the next five years.
