Manipur Chief Minister Urges Mizoram Counterpart to Support Peace, Not Interfere in Internal Matters

Northeast Desk, 12th December: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has appealed to the newly elected Chief Minister of Mizoram not to interfere in the internal matters of Manipur but to extend support in restoring peace in the state. Singh expressed his concern during the observance ceremony of Nupee Lal Numit, 2023, commemorating brave women who fought against the British Government.

Singh sharply reacted to comments made by the Mizoram Chief Minister, urging him to refrain from expressing views beyond his constitutional rights. He emphasized that the situation in Moreh is an internal matter and should be dealt with by the state itself. Singh appealed for support in restoring peace in Manipur, regardless of caste and community.

The Chief Minister also thanked other neighboring states for expressing concern and support during the present crisis in Manipur. He highlighted the impact of the political crisis in Myanmar, leading to an influx of outsiders into the state. Singh assured that humanitarian services are provided, along with precautionary measures to control the influx of refugees.

During the event, Singh announced two initiatives honoring women, including the renaming of a road stretch as ‘Nupi Lan Road’ and the ‘Chief Minister’s Ima Nongthangleima Yaipha Tengbang Scheme.’ The latter aims to provide financial assistance to women above 40 years with no source of income.

Speaking on the law and order situation, Singh stressed the need for all communities to stand together, acknowledging the contributions of women in society. The observance included a Nupee Lal Drama played by the Nupee Lal Memorial Association Drama Party, attended by various dignitaries and students.
