Assam: 177 kgs Ganja seized , 4 Arrested
Guwahati: In the ongoing war against drugs in the state Assam Police in a big development seized a huge quantity of cannabis (ganja) from an express train and arrested four persons in the connection in Assam’s Hojai district.
Working on a tip off from sources the Hojai Police officials in two different operations inside the Agartala-Madhya Pradesh Habibganj Rani Kamlapati Express train recovered a total of 177 kg cannabis from the train.
The smugglers had hidden the ganja in a box at a washroom of the coaches of the train.
As per the Hojai Police, the seized amount of cannabis was recovered in two different operations. In the first operation the Hojai Police seized around 65 kg of cannabis from the train then on the suspicious that further more cannabis was smuggling the Hojai Police contacted the Nagaon Police and launched joint operation at the Chaparmukh Railway Station in which they recovered 112 kg cannabis from the same train.
Reportedly, the seized cannabis was transported from Tripura to Bihar via train. Moreover, the seized ganja has a market value of around Rs 6 crores.
As per the sources, the police had to use cutter machines and hammers to break the box and take out the ganja.
Meanwhile, the four arrestees have been identified as Uttam Kumar Chauhan of Kherani in West Karbianglong, Atul Chauhan, Karuna Nidhi Mishra and Suraj Chauhan of Lanka. All of them are currently being kept in the custody of Hojai police and are being interrogated about the matter.
It may be mentioned that the four arrests were made from the train at the stoppages at Dhalpukhuri station and Saparmukh station in Hojai.
