Emmanuel Macron re-election as French President, Defeats Marine Le Pen

Guwahati: French President Emmanuel Macron was re-elected for a second term with 58.2 percent of the votes in the presidential elections in France on Sunday.

Macron defeated Marine Le Pen, who received 41.8 percent of the vote in an election with the largest voter turnout in 50 years.

As the results emerged on a huge screen at the Champ de Mars Park near the Eiffel Tower, where Macron’s supporters waved French and EU flags, joyous applause erupted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulating Macron on being re-elected as the President of France wrote on Twitter, “Congratulations to my friend Emmanuel Macron on being re-elected as the President of France! I look forward to continue working together to deepen the India-France Strategic Partnership.”
