Assam: 300 ex-AASU members set to join BJP

Guwahati, 5th December: In a significant development, a major rift has surfaced within the All Assam Student Union (AASU) stronghold, as over 300 former student union leaders and activists have decided to align themselves with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Sources indicate that this decision transpired following the recent AASU session, where former AASU leaders and workers, led by Dibya Jyoti Medhi, held discussions with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. In a show of solidarity, the delegation expressed their support to the BJP.

Former student leader Dibya Jyoti Medhi highlighted internal conflicts and dissatisfaction among AASU members as the driving force behind their choice to depart from the organization and join the BJP. Medhi, along with several other workers, officially left AASU on November 21. It is anticipated that Dibyajyoti Medhi, along with 300 AASU workers, will complete their transition to the BJP by the end of the week, with ongoing discussions involving the chief minister.

Addressing the media, Dibyajyoti Medhi stated, “Previously, I worked under the leadership of AASU, and now I will operate according to the party’s leadership. The BJP’s commitment to the state’s development, particularly under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has drawn us and the younger generation. Hence, I have stepped forward to collaborate with the BJP.”

He further emphasized, “Under Chief Minister Sarma’s guidance, the state’s youth will experience significant progress. CM Sarma’s unwavering dedication to the people aligns with our aspirations for development and the well-being of the state’s youth. By next week, the joining process is expected to be finalized, with ongoing discussions centered on our shared vision for the progress and welfare of the people.”
