Assam: Accused Rakesh Das in APSC Recruitment Scam Granted Bail

Guwahati, 17th February: Rakesh Das, a tainted ACS officer arrested in connection with the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) recruitment scam, was granted bail on Saturday, according to reports.

The Gauhati High Court approved bail for Das today.

Das, who served as an Assistant Employment Officer, was apprehended on November 29 in relation to the APSC recruitment scam.

In December 2023, he was reportedly taken into custody for four days by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police.

In January this year, the Gauhati High Court accepted the bail plea of one of the accused in the recruitment scam.

Initially, the high court granted bail to Shahjahan Sarkar, one of the accused gazetted officials who had come under scrutiny as the Assam government intensified its stance against the accused.

Technical mistakes in the government’s argument presented in court led to the granting of bail to Sarkar. The investigating teams failed to produce the case diary before the court, which prompted the acceptance of the bail plea.
