Assam: AJYCP Stages Statewide Protest over Price Rise
Guwahati: In view of skyrocketing prices of essential commodities in Assam, members of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged massive protests in different parts of the state on Tuesday.
The union staged massive protests against the government and demanded a curb in the rising prices of fuel, cylinder, medicines, vegetables and other essential commodities.
Members of the union also protested in Morigaon, Nalbari, Kalibor, Charideo and Mangaldoi.
The protesters raised anti-BJP slogans and claimed that the state government is unconcerned about the plight of the state’s common people.
Protesters also set fire to the effigy of Food and Civil Supplies Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass on the national route 15 in Mangaldoi of Darrang District.
One of the members of Mangaldoi AJYCP said, “People across the state are struggling to survive. The surge in the cost of vital commodities has put a dent in the average person’s wallet.”
Blaming the government, he added, “The government had made several pledges to work for the good of the people. Now, however, the situation is the polar opposite. The government appears unconcerned about the problems that the people of the state are experiencing.”
Meanwhile, a member of Morigaon AJYCP said, “The state government should take steps to cut the pricing of vital items. We urge the federal government and the state to take action on this matter as quickly as possible.”
