Assam: Allegations of Illicit Affair Rock Village Committee Chairman

Guwahati, 13th May: Sanjit Debnath, the chairman of the Village Council Development Committee (VCDC), found himself embroiled in controversy following allegations of engaging in an illicit affair. The incident unfolded in Tilak village, situated near Basugaon town in the Chirang district, on May 12.

Reports emerged of Sanjit Debnath, a father of two, being discovered under suspicious circumstances at the VCDC office in Tilak village. Speculations had been circulating regarding his purported involvement in an extramarital relationship with a married woman from Vijay village, identified by the surname Burman.

Tensions heightened when locals claimed to have witnessed the two individuals together at the VCDC office late at night. Prompted by their suspicions, community members intervened, intercepting the duo and promptly notifying the nearby police station.

Law enforcement swiftly responded to the distress call, ensuring Sanjit Debnath’s safety amid a palpable atmosphere of community unrest. The incident has since reverberated through Basugaon town, evoking strong emotions and sparking public outcry.
