Assam: Protest Erupts in Baksa’s Kahibari Over Lack of Bridge, Residents Demand Urgent Government Action

Guwahati, 13th May: In a powerful display of frustration and demand for essential infrastructure, residents of Baksa’s Kahibari staged a massive protest, calling for the construction of a much-needed bridge. The absence of connectivity has plunged the community into hardship, with dire consequences for students and medical emergencies, particularly during the monsoon season.

The impassioned plea for a bridge stems from the profound challenges faced by Kahibari residents, exacerbated by the lack of a vital link to neighboring areas. Tragically, the absence of a bridge has proved fatal, as an ailing individual lost their life while attempting to reach the hospital in time, thwarted by impassable flooded areas.

Expressing disillusionment with promises of development, locals lamented the neglect of their plight by authorities, despite appeals to district officials and repeated visits by Sub-Divisional Officers. Residents recall the assurances made by the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) government, only to feel abandoned and betrayed by the failure to fulfill commitments to their community’s advancement.

The dire situation has effectively isolated Kahibari, transforming it into an island inaccessible to essential services such as ambulances, due to the lack of proper routes and connectivity. Students also endure significant hardships, particularly during the monsoon season, as the absence of a bridge disrupts their ability to attend school.

In light of these pressing concerns, the residents of Baksa’s Kahibari urgently appeal to the government for immediate action, emphasizing the profound difficulties and hardships endured by the community. The construction of a bridge is not only a matter of convenience but a lifeline essential for the well-being and safety of Kahibari’s residents, whose cries for assistance echo with increasing urgency.
