Assam Army Jawan Swept Away in Sikkim Flash Floods, Body Found

Northeast Desk, 8th October: In a heartbreaking development, the body of the missing Army Jawan from Assam, Mitul Kalita, has been found in the aftermath of the flash floods that struck Sikkim. Mitul Kalita, hailing from Baksa district in Assam, was posted in Alipurduar, West Bengal. He had been in Sikkim for official duty but tragically went missing during his return journey due to a cloudburst in North Sikkim on October 4.

Local authorities have recovered his body, and arrangements are being made to bring it to his hometown in Assam for the final rites. This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the risks and challenges faced by individuals in service, especially during adverse weather conditions.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, posted on X to offer his condolences to the family, “A tragic loss for Assam as it loses a braveheart in Mitul Kalita of Indian Army, from Baksa District, in the unfortunate flash flood in Sikkim. My prayers for the departed soul & condolences to the bereaved family in this hour of grief.”
