Assam: Baghbar MLA Sherman Ali Caught on Tape Threatening School Principal, Sparks Outrage

Guwahati, 30th September: A recording of Baghbar MLA Sherman Ali verbally abusing the principal of a school in the Mandia constituency has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation. In the audio clip, the MLA can be heard threatening the principal, vowing to “kick [him] out of the school” for what he perceived as a lack of respect.

During the conversation, Sherman Ali declared, “I am an MLA, and I will have you removed from the school… You show me no respect. You’re just a school teacher from Mandia, while I represent 3 lakh people.” He went on to threaten the principal, saying he would make him “strip in front of the students” if disrespected again, and promised to expel him from the school.

The altercation reportedly arose from the principal’s refusal to approve the MLA’s recommendation to include a woman in the School Management and Development Committee (SMDC). The MLA emphasized his influence, adding, “You may complain to the District Commissioner or whoever you want, nobody can do anything to me.”

The incident has sparked outrage, with many expressing concerns about the misuse of power by public officials. The recording has reignited discussions about the accountability of elected representatives and the protection of public servants from abuse.
