Assam: Barpeta District Launches Polio Immunization Campaign
Assam: The Sub-National Immunization Day (Polio) campaign was officially launched in Barpeta district on December 8th. This crucial initiative aims to protect 3,07,373 children under the age of five against polio, constituting 14.9% of the district’s population.
The campaign, launched at the Office of the Joint Director of Health Services, was attended by prominent officials, including Assistant Commissioner Sanskriti Somani and Joint Director of Health (i/c) Dr. Hashmat Ali.
Dr. Hashmat Ali emphasized the district’s unwavering commitment to eradicating polio. He highlighted the collaborative efforts of the health department and local stakeholders to ensure that no child is left unvaccinated.
To facilitate widespread immunization, the district has established 1,125 Polio Booths and 62 transit points. Additionally, ten Melas/Bazaars have been identified as strategic locations for vaccination drives.
To reach remote and underserved areas, 27 mobile teams have been deployed, comprising 4,716 field workers who will conduct door-to-door immunization. Moreover, 256 supervisors have been appointed to oversee the campaign and address challenges in areas like brick kilns and difficult-to-access booths.
The successful implementation of this campaign hinges on the collective efforts of healthcare workers, community leaders, and parents. By working together, the district aims to achieve its goal of a polio-free future.
