Assam: Bongaigaon Schools Adjust Timings Due to Severe Heatwave
Guwahati, 25th May: The Office of the District Commissioner in Bongaigaon, Assam, has issued an order modifying school timings within the district in response to the ongoing heatwave conditions. This decision affects both government and private schools and aims to protect the health and safety of students.
The order emphasizes the necessity of adjusting school hours to mitigate the adverse effects of the extreme heat. It stipulates that lower primary schools will now operate from 7 am to 10 am. Middle English and upper primary schools will run from 7 am to 11 am, while high schools and higher secondary schools will be open from 7 am to 12 noon.
Additionally, the order mandates the suspension of all outdoor activities, including sports and assemblies, during this period. Indoor activities may continue as long as they do not involve strenuous physical exertion. The District Commissioner has directed all schools to ensure the availability of cool drinking water and shaded areas for students, and has advised that students carry water bottles.
Schools are instructed to provide immediate medical attention to any student showing signs of heat-related illnesses. The Inspector of Schools and the DEEO of Bongaigaon are responsible for implementing these changes and ensuring strict compliance.
The revised timings and safety measures must be communicated to students, parents, and staff through appropriate channels. The order, issued in the interest of public health and safety, is to be strictly adhered to by all educational institutions in the district. School inspectors are tasked with enforcing compliance, with potential actions against non-compliance.
This adjustment will remain in effect until further notice, with modifications based on ongoing assessments of the weather conditions.
