Assam: BTR Delegation Proposes Exclusive Territorial Army Regiment to Defence Minister
A delegation from the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), led by Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro, met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Friday, advocating for greater youth engagement in national defense. During the meeting, the delegation proposed the establishment of a specialized regiment, the “Territorial Army Home and Hearth Battalion,” exclusively for the BTR region.
Highlighting the enthusiastic participation of BTR youth in various armed forces recruitment drives and programs, the leaders emphasized that the proposed regiment would serve as both an inspiration and a practical opportunity for the region’s young population to contribute to national security.
CEM Pramod Boro explained that the initiative would foster a sense of pride, belonging, and service among the youth, strengthening their connection to the nation while addressing employment concerns in the region.
The memorandum, submitted during the meeting, outlined the potential benefits of creating the regiment, including enhanced regional development and a dedicated platform for the youth to channel their energies toward national defense.
Accompanying Boro were MP Jayonta Basumatary, BTR Executive Member Wilson Hasda, and Member of Council Legislative Assembly (MCLA) Madhab Chetry, who all voiced strong support for the proposal.
The Defence Minister acknowledged the memorandum and assured the delegation of the central government’s consideration of their request. The proposed regiment, if approved, is expected to bolster opportunities for BTR youth while reinforcing national security initiatives in the region.
