Guwahati, 12th February: During her budget speech in the Assam Assembly on February 8, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog introduced the ambitious “Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan.” This initiative aims to uplift women across the state by fostering entrepreneurship and enhancing their economic participation.

The Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan underscores the government’s commitment to empowering women economically and socially. It offers comprehensive support to women entrepreneurs, particularly those belonging to Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in rural areas.

Finance Minister Ajanta Neog outlined the scheme’s key components, emphasizing its goal of boosting the income of women entrepreneurs and nurturing them into successful business owners. Each of the 39,67,743 women members of SHGs in rural areas will receive an entrepreneurship fund of Rs. 10,000, aimed at kickstarting their entrepreneurial journey.

Additionally, beneficiaries will have access to bank loans starting from a minimum of Rs. 25,000, with prudent utilization and timely repayment making them eligible for a capital subsidy of Rs. 12,500. This support aims to strengthen their financial stability and business prospects.

The Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan adopts a holistic approach, offering financial assistance, mentorship, and market access to women entrepreneurs. The scheme’s extension to urban areas will benefit approximately 2.5 lakh SHG members, further broadening its impact.

With sufficient resources allocated for implementation, the government aims to advance gender parity and economic empowerment in Assam. By tapping into the entrepreneurial potential of women, the state is poised for socio-economic transformation, heralding a more inclusive and prosperous future.
